Connect 12 V Pump To Solar Panel

In a sale i picked up a 115w panel with 37v output and plan to connect this to a 12v dc 50w pump via a voltage regulator.

Its just to fill a water tank from a river no hurry to fill the tank the pump can run for days if needed. The following solar panel wiring diagram shows that a 12v 120w pv panel is connected to the solar charge controller panel negative terminal of panel to the negative terminal of mppt charge controller and vice versa for positive terminal. Try wiring the panel to charge a battery and run the pump off the battery.

It depends on the pump. A solar panel will vary the energy causing your pump to run erratically and possibly not at all. The dc to ac inverter is fed up by the direct solar panels during normal sunshine day and batteries in case of shading or night. Im not sure what the startup requirements are for that size pump.

There are dc solar pumps designed to work directly with a solar panel. The lcb takes solar panel power at low current and fixed vmp vmp i sun and converts to high current low voltage used to start the pump motor. Solar panels work optimally in the sunshine and hence to ensure we have this power available all the time we have to store this charge in 12 volt batteries for use at night. We can connect the power generating pv panel and energy storage as backup power in batteries with the 12v ups inverter and solar charge controller.
